Debbie died peacefully at home surrounded by her family in Berthoud Tuesday, May 19. 

She was born in Lorain, Ohio, to Grace and Richard Vakerics in 1954. When Debbie was three, the family moved to California. They settled in Upland, California, where she grew up and made several lifelong friends. 

She met her husband Frank while working together in Upland. They shared a passion for nature and the outdoors and married on April 30, 1977. They relocated to Colorado in the 1980s where she fell in love with Berthoud’s small town charm, and became an avid fan of the Denver Broncos.

Debbie had a career in injection molding qualitycControl at several companies until leaving to take care of her newborn daughter full time. She found a new passion for long-term memory care later in life and worked as a dietary aide at Aspen House in Loveland for several years. She was honored as one of Provider Magazine’s “20 to Watch” in 2014. 

She was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her husband Frank Saccone; daughter Stephanie Saccone of Denver, Colorado, and sister Marlene Leuenhagen of La Verne, California

Debbie supported several organizations throughout her life. If you are so inclined, in lieu of flowers you may donate in her memory to the Food Bank for Larimer County, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
