Special to the Surveyor

The annual Scouting for Food drive sponsored jointly by the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America will begin here on April 6 at 9 a.m. to collect food for the House of Neighborly Services.

Fliers for the event will be distributed by volunteers to homes in Berthoud starting the week of April 1 that will provide a list of items to donate and instructions on where to put the donations for families who participate.

Approximately 140 scout volunteers will go door-to-door to hand deliver the 6,000 fliers across town and pick up the donations left on participating doorsteps. Fliers were donated by Lefthand Print Works in Berthoud.

Items people can donate include boxed or canned food items such as baking mixes, beans, canned fruit/vegetables, cereal, macaroni and cheese, oatmeal, pasta, peanut butter, rice and soup. Personal care items; such as deodorant, razors, shampoo, tissue, toilet paper and tooth brushes/paste can also be part of the donations.

Last year more than 6,270 pounds of food were collected during the event. This year’s goal is to collect 6,500 pounds.

All donations will be taken to the House of Neighborly Services to be distributed to local families in need.
