Municipal elections in Berthoud are around the corner and Monday was the deadline for candidates to submit paperwork to be eligible for election. The office of Berthoud mayor as well as three trustee positions are up for election.

It is a two-horse race for the mayor of the Garden Spot with incumbent Mayor Will Karspeck running for a final term and newcomer Justin Delap also throwing his hat in the ring.

Five candidates will compete for the three trustee spots on the board. Incumbent May Albrecht (née Soricelli) will look to be reelected to another four-year term after receiving the most votes in the April 2020 election.

Chris Kurtz, who was appointed from the planning commission to fill a vacancy on the town board last September, is hoping voters give him a full four-year term on the board. Brett Wing, who was the other candidate considered to fill the vacancy—and also a member of the planning commission—is similarly seeking a spot on the board.

The other two candidates vying for a spot are Aaron Perry and Peder Thorstensen.

Local ballots will be mailed to voters in mid-March with the election set for April 2. Voters can change or update their registration online at www.govotecolorado.com.

The Surveyor will interview and profile each of the candidates before the election. If there are specific questions or topics Berthoud residents would like covered, please send them to [email protected].
