There are only six in all of Thompson School District (TSD) and only one in Berthoud.

At the Jan. 17 regular meeting of the TSD Board of Education, Berthoud High School’s (BHS) Jaci Taylor was honored as one of six students in the district to have been named semi-finalists for the Boettcher Scholarship.

Along with Taylor, fellow TSD seniors Egan Bauersfeld, Jaden Fitzpatrick, Kennedy Layne, Marin Napolitano and Anika Seter were also selected. In February 100 finalists will be selected from the semi-finalists before 50 winners of the prestigious scholarship will be announced in March or April.

After recognizing the semi-finalists, the board approved a dozen clerical changes to the non-discrimination policy and procedure documents used by the district.

Discussion items included an overview of the district’s growing innovative technology services student internship program and youth mental health task force update.

Graduation and dropout rates for the 2022-2023 school year were also presented to the board. Among the four TSD high schools, BHS had the second-highest on-time graduation rate at 94%, while Mountain View High School had the highest with 96.3%. However, BHS had the lowest dropout rate of the four, at only 1.1%. Curiously Mountain View also had the highest dropout rate in the district with 3.2%.

All members of the TSD board were present except Alexandra Lessem.
