Veterans Day events in and around Berthoud

Veterans Day is coming up on Nov. 11, and there are plenty of events to give love and support to those who supported us with their military service.
The Berthoud VFW Auxiliary Post 12189 is hosting a veteran’s dinner and silent auction at the High Country Beverage event room, located at 4200 Ronald Reagan Blvd. in Johnstown. The dinner will take place on Nov. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. Veterans will be treated to a free meal and non-veterans are suggested to donate $10 for their meal.
According to Berthoud local and representative of District 64 in Colorado Ryan Armagost, the Weld County Veterans Memorial Association will hold a Veteran’s Day ceremony at the Weld County Veterans Memorial located on 3501 16th St. in Greeley near Bittersweet Park.
One of the bigger events around Berthoud is the Loveland Veterans Day Parade. Activities start at 6 a.m. with the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary serving breakfast at the American Legion’s main hall. The main parade event begins at 11:11 a.m. and will go through downtown Loveland going from Railroad Avenue to Fourth Street, then a left onto Garfield Avenue, right from Garfield Avenue to 13th Street and then left from 13th Street to Dwayne Webster Park. The ceremony will take place on the northeast corner by the memorial statue.
The speaker at the ceremony will be Kirstie Ennis, an Afghanistan War veteran. A $5 lunch will be served at the American Legion Auxiliary building after the ceremony.
Meals on Wheels will also be providing free hot chocolate during the parade.
Many chain restaurants have Veterans Day deals for both those in active duty and military veterans. These include Applebee’s with a free entree from a special menu, Buffalo Wild Wings with 10 free wings and fries, Chili’s with a free meal from a special menu, Dunkin’ Donuts with a free donut at select locations, Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers with a free Freddy’s Original Double with Cheese combo meal card that can be redeemed through Nov. 30, Golden Corral with a free “thank you” meal on Nov. 13 and Ziggi’s with a free drink. There is a whole list of locations with deals and discounts on military.com under the Veterans Day Restaurant Discount tab.
As Veterans Day approaches, there are plenty of events to honor the men and women who have served our country.
Editor’s note: We thank the veterans for their service especially our own veteran Brendan Henry.
