Firefighter Jourdan Mazur is in the line of fire as kids hone their hose skills and team up to move a giant inflatable ball to their opponent’s corner of a field in Pioneer Park in Berthoud on Monday, Aug. 6, at Berthoud Fire Protection District’s (BFPD) third annual Firefighter For A Day Camp. Kids from age 7 to 13 went through multiple stations to learn about fire safety and what it takes to be a firefighter and first responder. The experience included learning about and trying on kid-size firefighter gear, crawling through a trailer filled with simulated smoke from a fog machine, maneuvering through an obstacle course with blacked-out goggles on, washing a firetruck, and getting to know several of the BFPD’s firefighters. Due to the camp’s popularity, two days of camp were scheduled this year to accommodate the number of participants. The second camp will be Monday, Aug. 13, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch is provided, as well as a t-shirt. To register, or for more information, email public information officer, May Soricelli, at [email protected] and include names of children, ages, shirt size, and any food allergies.
