Berthoud’s Elizabeth Kearney announces run for TSD Board of Education
Special to the Surveyor
Elizabeth Kearney, attorney and second-generation Berthoud resident announces she is running for the Thompson School Board in District G. Elizabeth is the daughter of former Bill Reed Junior High School science teacher, Jeanne Bolton. Elizabeth and her husband Robert chose to raise their family in Berthoud and both of her daughters graduated from Thompson School District high schools.
Kearney has been engaged with our schools most of her life. She watched as her mom spent hours preparing lessons, grading tests and working with her students. Kearney also spent countless hours working in our schools as an active parent. She was a room parent, sports team snack mom and fundraiser, supporting students and staff in their pursuit of excellence.
Kearney said, “Watching mom work so hard with her students and still find time to give back in the community has inspired me to be engaged and now run for school board.”
Thompson Schools prepared Kearney for success. After graduating from high school, she attended Colorado State University and received her law degree from the University of Denver. She has practiced law for over 30 years. She and her husband are small business owners and have worked hard for their success. Kearney founded and is on the board of Wildfire Community Arts Center, which provides art opportunities for all ages.
Kearney’s business experience and deep educational roots have shaped her priorities for the school board. She knows the staff is being asked to do more and more—and there is less focus on delivering basic instruction. Kearney knows from her business experience it is time for a change. It is time to engage parents and the community in the district’s pursuit of delivering excellence.
“Supporting hard-working staff, spending dollars wisely and prioritizing student success will be my focus areas,” said Kearney.
Kearney knows firsthand that a great public education is the key to helping create a successful future. Her mom focused on ensuring her students had the basic skills they needed. She and her daughters received an excellent education from the Thompson School District. She is committed to ensuring the learning losses our students have experienced are erased and our students are on the path to success.
Elizabeth Kearney is dedicated to ensuring our schools are safe, dollars reach our classrooms, parents are treated as partners and students receive the instruction and opportunities, they need to ensure their success after graduation.
“I will work hard to honor the example my mom set and pursue excellence in everything we do,” said Kearney.
