They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So, for the most important day in Berthoud — you would be a fool to miss it!

Thankfully Berthoud’s local boy scouts in Troop Six will host the 41st annual pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. on Berthoud Day, June 3. The delicious breakfast event will be held at the Lion’s Club at 600 Third St. Tickets are $6 for kids and $8 for adults. Pancake breakfast is an annual tradition in the Garden Spot to kick off Berthoud Day. But make sure to arrive early and finish your pancakes, because at 8 a.m. the second annual Spartan 5K run begins. Hosted by Berthoud High School, the run helps raise money for athletics at the school. Following the race, medals are awarded to the top male and female winners as well as the top three finishers by gender for nine age groups. Last year’s overall winners were Kevin Clark and Trish Vigil. All ages are welcome to run in the event which features competitive runners as well as weekend warriors.
Registration for the event is $30 for ages 11 years and up, $10 for children aged seven to 10 and free for children six years or younger. Same-day race registration will also be available on-site for an extra $5. To register online, visit https://www.raceentry.com/berthoud-spartans-5k/race-information.

With breakfast and exercise done for the day, make sure to bring your folding chair and grab a prime spot on Mountain Avenue before 11 a.m. for the Berthoud Day parade. After the parade, the event will shift to Waggener Park at 1000 N. Berthoud Pkwy. From noon until 9 p.m. the outdoor festivities will include performances by local bands, food trucks, dance performers, a kid zone, an old-time baseball game, vendors and beverages including local brews, wine, cider, seltzer and more.

“We could not be more thrilled to have Berthoud Day return for its 69th year. This event has become an important annual tradition in Berthoud, drawing both residents and visitors to gather for a fun day outside. We are excited to offer a great lineup of music, activities, vendors and more. It’s a great family tradition,” said Debbie Davis, the vice president of the Berthoud Area Chamber of Commerce Board.

The all-day event is free and open to the public with all members of the community invited to come together and celebrate. Berthoud Day has its roots in an event that began in 1925, called the “Pioneers of the Little Thompson Picnic,” which was held to bring Berthoud families together and celebrate the beginning of summer. The tradition will continue this year as Berthoud Day at Waggener Park. Berthoud Day is expected to return to Berthoud Town Park in 2024.
