Community Foundation of Northern Colorado awards $35,850 to projects in Berthoud
The Community Foundation of Northern Colorado awarded $35,850 last week to 10 projects submitted by local nonprofit organizations. The Berthoud Community Fund Committee, a part of the Community Foundation since 1995, recommended projects it believes deliver value to the community.
The nonprofits receiving funding and benefitting projects include:
- A Little Help – Launch of services in Berthoud
- Berthoud Habitat for Humanity – One dark-sky compliant street light
- Berthoud High School – Berthoud After Prom Event
- Berthoud Historical Society – Door replacement on the Bimson Building
- Berthoud Robotics – New robotics equipment
- Foster and Adoptive Families of Larimer County – Car seats
- Guided Hope – Roundup Program Equipment
- House of Neighborly Service – Berthoud office
- Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud – Meal delivery
- Wildfire Community Arts Center – Summer camp and after school art club
Since 2016 Berthoud Robotics has qualified eight middle school teams for the VexIQ World Championship and has twice been selected as the top middle school team in Colorado. For the 2017-18 season all four of its high school teams qualified for the Colorado State Championship and one was chosen as the top high school team in Colorado so was sent to the VexVRC World Championship.
“The generous support provided by the Berthoud Community Fund allows our six teams to design, construct, program, document and test with the same modern electronics used by the other 11,000 Vex teams worldwide,” said Kurt Worrell, Berthoud Robotics Club representative. “Between the 2017-18 and 2018-19 competition seasons, Vex Robotics introduced the next generation of robotic competition electronics, so we can replace the equipment our high school teams have been using since the 2008-09 season.”
The Berthoud Community Fund Committee members are Brad Cook, Mike Cook, Tim DePumpo, Robert Kearney, Diane Levy, Misha Maggi, Tom Patterson, Christine Torres and committee chair, Meinte Veldhuis.
