A large crowd filled Bein Park to watch the Berthoud Youth Athletic Associations (BYAA) Berthoud Spartans 12U baseball team win the Colorado United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) championship in Berthoud by beating Eaton 11 – 7. Each team member received a championship ring. Coach Jeff Jorissen stated in an email, “I am really proud of the accomplishments of the team.” Game summary for the tournament; Saturday lost 8-7 to Grand Junction Grizz, 7-8; beat Cage Rats, 15-2, Michael Silva and Reece Stratmeyer combined on the pitching; Sunday beat BC Aztecs, 11-3, Connor Jorissen pitched four innings, Landon Kuntz pitched one; beat Johnstown Elite, 8-5, Landon Kuntz pitched whole game; beat Pueblo West Cardinals, 6-2, Kaleb Cooper pitched complete game; championship game postponed to Tuesday; Tuesday, July 17, beat Eaton 11-7, Adam Hayes pitched fi ve innings. Connor Jorissen pitched fi nal inning. Hitting stars of the tournament were: Connor Jorissen 13 for 17 with fi ve doubles, Michael Silva 10 for 13 with three doubles and 2 triples, Landon Kuntz 9 for 13, Reece Stratmeyer 9 for 17.
