Good news for Berthoud-area seniors. Soon there will be a new spot in town to socialize and play games. The Berthoud branch of the House of Neighborly Service (HNS) plans to have the first of these events on March 5.

Jinger Tomassi, manager of the Berthoud branch of HNS says these “Senior Tuesdays” will occur on the first Tuesday of each month. The time for coffee, pastries, games and puzzles will be from 9 a.m. until noon, and is free of charge. The events will be in the Outpost building on the Grace Place Church campus. Grace Place is located at 375 Meadowlark Dr., west of Berthoud.

Tomassi stressed anyone is welcome at the Senior Tuesdays, not just HNS clients. The general age guideline for the group is 50 years and older. She jokingly said there will be no IDs checked at the door. The manager stated part of the reason for the get-togethers is that loneliness can be a factor for senior citizens.

Loveland-based HNS provides services to Berthoud at Grace Place on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Services include food, clothing, assistance with utilities, prescriptions, Lion’s Club applications for eyeglasses, gas vouchers, and much more.

Berthoud HNS has served Berthoud for 29 years, opening the branch in April of 1990. In October 2017, Tomassi says offerings were expanded to a “life center” model, like Loveland. In this model, other agencies partner with HNS to provide assistance to clients.

Tomassi summed up Senior Tuesday by saying. “Everyone is welcome. Come and have fun and meet new people.” Signage on the Grace Place campus will direct people to the Outpost building. The telephone number for Berthoud HNS is 532-0161.
