Record-breaking Spartan

October 18, 2019 | Sports
Photo by Angie Purdy – Berthoud High School’s Cooper Stratmeyer set a modern-era BHS record in last Friday night’s football game by accumulating 325 yards from scrimmage, 191 yards rushing, and 134 yards receiving. Stratmeyer also scored five touchdowns as the Spartans blew away Prospect Ridge by a 42-6 final score. Berthoud’s o-line did their part by opening holes and paving the way for Stratmeyer while quarterback Sam Baird was on point, hitting Stratmeyer time and again in the passing game as Berthoud earned their first conference win. Perhaps most impressively, Stratmeyer did the vast majority of the damage in only one half as he, along with most of Berthoud’s offensive starters, saw only limited action in the second half thanks to the 42-point lead the team established early in the third quarter. “I knew we needed to come out with a win and needed some big plays to get that. The whole team played great, and after a few big plays (Prospect Ridge) didn’t know what hit them,” Berthoud football’s newest record-breaker said.
