Gary Boughton

October 29, 1940 – August 25, 2018

Memorial services for Gary Boughton, 77, of Berthoud was 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at the Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witnesses in Berthoud.

Gary Boughton

Gary was born on Oct. 29, 1940, in Tucson, Ariz. He moved to California with his father and mother when he was 2 years old. His father died when he was 8 years old, and at that time he went to live with his Grandmother Zora Boughton, who raised him. Gary graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles in 1958. After graduating, he married and had two children, Kenneth Boughton born Aug. 27, 1963, and Garianne Boughton born Oct. 31, 1966. One of his greatest joys in life was becoming a father.

After his divorce, Gary then met Jeanne in 1973. It was like love at first sight. They married on April 21, 1973. Jeanne had three daughters from her previous marriage, who readily admit they did not make life easy for their new stepfather. But through the years they grew to love and respect him because of the love he showed to their mother and the kind, loving grandfather he was to their children. Gary had the joy of becoming a father again to another son, David Boughton, who was born on June 15, 1975. One year later, Diana Boughton was born on July 7, 1976.

Gary was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1975 and continued to serve Jehovah through his entire life. He was convinced he had found the truth by the love he felt and was shown by the Rowland Heights congregation in contrast to previous churches he had attended. He served as an elder in the Sierra Vista congregation in Ontario, Calif., for 10 years.

In April 2013 the family suffered a tragic loss with the death of Gary’s son Kenny. This was a time of great sorrow and a very difficult time for Gary. He did find strength and comfort from Jehovah and his faith and hope in the resurrection. He was very much looking forward to the time when he would be reunited with his son on a paradise earth under Jehovah’s Kingdom.

Gary found much joy and happiness in being a grandfather. He was a beloved grandfather of 13, and great-grandfather to 18. He always loved talking to the little ones and always made time for them. He was always playful and loved to have the chance to share his love of trains, buses and trolleys with them.

One of Gary’s happiest times was when he was a conductor on the Fort Collins trolley car #21. He did this for a few summers and enjoyed every minute of it. He also enjoyed listening to classical music and old time radio. Some of his favorites were Jack Benny, Red Skelton and Spike Jones, and even Dr. Demento. You were guaranteed to hear one of these playing if you visited him downstairs in his hobby room where he worked on his model trains, trolley cars and buses. He was also an avid reader, and he dearly missed being able to read after getting cataracts.

Gary is survived by his wife Jeanne; children; David Boughton, Diana (Markus) Neuwirther, Garianne Dashiell, Debbie McGee, Barbara (Paul) Jackson and Carolyn (Tony) Williamson, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Boughton.

Gary’s favorite scripture was Psalms 145:16 which says, “You (Jehovah) open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.” Our hearts are filled with sorrow at this time. But we can all look forward to a time when we see our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend again when Jehovah has accomplished this for all who come to know Him.
