Newman Esthetics offers everything from skincare to waxing services

Berthoud business owner Sara Newman has the word “cool” down when it comes to being an esthetician.

Going against the norm in the beauty industry, she’s created a safe space for men, women and literally everyone visiting Newman Esthetics to feel welcome.

“I’m really driven to create a space not just for women but men as well,” said Newman, owner of Newman Esthetics, 435 Third Street, Ste. B, adding that her décor is not “pink and fru fru.” “I use more earthy tones, like green, orange and neutral. I use a lot of plants and fun, odd decorations I find.”

Newman opened Newman Esthetics in mid-June after quitting a secure 9-5 finance job, wanting to help others feel good about their skin and themselves.

“(We) don’t just care how you look, how hairy you are or what your internet history says,” as stated on Newman’s website, newmanesthetics.com. “We don’t want to just know what you are there to treat, but also what you love about yourself, and we want to praise all the wonderful things.”

Newman offers skincare and waxing services, and appointments can be quiet without the chatter if clients choose.

The skincare services include 60- and 75-minute custom facials with facial masks and massages as part of the treatments, as well as gua sha facials that use stones to gently scrape the skin, soothe muscle tension and improve the lymphatic system. Her other services include skin lightening to remove blemishes, microchanneling to activate collagen production, chemical peels, microneedling, and dermaplanning and microdermabrasion, which both exfoliate the skin. She also does body treatments that include body facials, microdermabrasion and chemical peels.

Newman offers Light Emitting Diode, LED, phototherapy, the application of light energy to tissue to improve cellular performance and provide therapeutic benefits. Her waxing services are for various parts of the body, including the upper lip, underarms, back, legs and stomach.

“Our skin is our largest organ of our body. It’s just as important to keep it as healthy as our other organs, like the heart, liver and kidneys,” Newman said about the body’s first line of defense against the effects of aging and sun damage. “We can’t really reverse our age, but we can slow down the process by getting our skin the nutrients and hydration it needs.”

Skin can be protected through oral and topical vitamins, such as Vitamins A, C, E and K, plus peptides.

“Everyone needs vitamins internally and externally as well,” Newman said.

Newman became interested in skincare after struggling with acne most of her life. She tried to treat it in multiple ways, including working with a dermatologist and using products on the market, but when she went to an esthetician in 2018, she was introduced to professional skincare. She changed her home care program and started getting chemical peels and other services—she also changed her diet to address issues with her gut that affected her skin.

“I grew up struggling with acne my whole life, so I can relate to feeling out of place and self-conscious because of my acne,” Newman said.

Newman, who worked in finance for eight years, earned her certification in esthetics in May 2022 from the White Magnolia Advanced Skin Care Institute in Fort Collins. She has advanced licensing in microneedling, dermaplanning, micropeels and microdermabrasion.

“I decided that I wanted a big change, so I got into esthetics a year ago to create a business,” Newman said. “I enjoy meeting clients and helping them with skin issues and hair removal.”
