Kostka annexation approved by town board

The Berthoud Board of Trustees wasted little time in following the recommendation of the planning commission to approve the annexation and rezone of a 1.003-acre tract located in north-central Berthoud.
The tract, known as the Kostka annexation, will be treated as a minor subdivision as allowed under the town’s development code. Minor subdivisions fall under the purview of the planning commission.
According to the owner/applicant, Mary Jo Kostka, if the annexation is approved, the tract will be subdivided into three single-family lots, and, to that end, she was seeking R-1 (single family residential) zoning. An address for the property is 712 Larimer County Road 10E.
Prior to annexation approval, the property was under the jurisdiction of Larimer County, where it was zoned FA-1. Under the county zoning rules, the applicant was limited to one residential lot. That led the applicant to explore annexation.
The most recent use of the property was to park two mobile homes that have been removed.
Berthoud municipal utilities (water and sewer) will be provided by the town.
A motion concerning a resolution regarding the findings of fact for the annexation was made, seconded and passed unanimously. This was quickly followed by a motion bringing forth an ordinance annexing the property known as the Kostka annexation was made, seconded and unanimously approved. The final motion was in support of an ordinance establishing the zoning as R-1 for the Kostka annexation. This motion was again seconded and approved unanimously.
The trustees approved Charles “Chad” Onthank and Brian Dodd to serve on the Parks, Open Space, Recreation and Trails (PORT) Advisory Committee for three-year terms.
The board unanimously adopted the 2018 International Fire Code by reference. Also adopted were minor changes suggested by the trustees and a section which contains modifications specific to the town or to the Berthoud Fire Protection District.
