Deadline to apply for school choice option is Jan. 12
The application deadline is Thursday, January 12 for Thompson School District families wanting to enroll students in specialty-focused programs and schools outside designated school boundaries. The deadline was extended due to technical upgrades in the district computer systems during December.
Each year, students in the district have the opportunity to apply for admittance to the school of their choice for the next year, anywhere in the district. Thompson offers a wide array of specialty programs in some K-12 schools. These programs emphasize specific areas of emphasis as an enhancement to the typical curriculum. More than 20 different programs are available, including programs focusing on arts, sciences, languages, agriculture, college prep, engineering and leadership. “We’re proud of being able to offer a wide variety of educational experiences for every student in the district.,” said Mike Hausmann, Chief Communications Officer for the Thompson School District. He emphasized that the district strives to meet the diverse needs of every student.
Students wishing to remain in their neighborhood schools do not need to apply. Students already enrolled in schools outside their home boundary in the current school year do not need to re-apply for next year.
All applications submitted through January 12 will be entered into a lottery to fill open seats at each school. The results of the lottery will be posted to family dashboards on February 24. Students who are chosen will have five days to confirm or decline the placement offer. Should additional seats open in any school, the lottery’s waitlist will be used.
Visit the Thompson School District website: www.thompsonschools.org to find out more about the specialty programs available (Educational Options). Apply for Choice Enrollment on the home page.
