An incident at a construction site in Berthoud resulted in the death of a 43-year-old man from Englewood on the morning of Thursday Nov. 15.
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office confirmed the deceased construction worker as Walter Vasquez-Caballeros.
A report from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Berthoud Squad indicated that the incident was the result of Vasquez-Caballeros being struck by a gable truss which fell from an overhead crane. He was transported to McKee Medical Center in Loveland where he later died from his injuries. The death was determined to be accidental by the County Coroner.
David Moore the Public Information Officer at LCSO said that police responded to a call from the site located in the 100 block of S. Eighth St. at 10:01 a.m. Representatives of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) were also notified and according to Moore are now leading the investigation.
The site where the incident took place is being developed by Creekside Development LLC with multi-family housing units.
A representative with OSHA’s Denver area office stated that accidents involving fatalities are heavily scrutinized by the organization, the results of which can take up to six months to be finalized.
