Berthoud FFA announces first-ever Fun Run for May 22

By: Special to the Surveyor | May 13, 2021 | Education

After a limited year of activity, Berthoud Future Farmers of America (FFA) is excited to host its first-ever Fun Run May 22 at 9 a.m. starting at the Berthoud High School (BHS) track. This is a casual, two-mile run/walk around the school grounds with fun obstacles on the course. Come prepared to get wet and have a good time. It is family-friendly and appropriate for kids. And those that want a milder experience are welcome to bypass and just enjoy a jog or stroll!

FFA Chapter Secretary Hallie Cook shared, “We’re excited to host a fun run because we haven’t gotten to do many activities due to COVID. This serves as a way for the community and FFA members to come together and have a great time. I hope families and students and everyone come out to have light-hearted fun after a year of sitting at home.”

FFA is the extracurricular activity that accompanies food and agriculture science classes at Berthoud High. Currently, BHS offers multiple classes in plant science and animal science. FFA’s mission is to develop students’ potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Students are encouraged to have a project or work experience in an agricultural field. Students in Berthoud are starting a greenhouse and garden program at the high school that will grow vegetables and flowers for real-world experience. FFA members participate in leadership development contests like public speaking and job interview training. There are also career development contests for specific technical areas such as floriculture, horse, agronomy, livestock judging, food science, etc.

Register for the Fun Run at bit.ly/ffafunrun. Payment will be taken on the day of the race at 9:00. Cash or check is preferred, but credit cards will be accepted. Cost is $10 for students, $20 for adults, and a family four-pack (two adults, two students) for $50. Registration day of the race is available but they appreciate pre-registration for better planning.

If you can’t participate but would like to support the cause, donate at bit.ly/ffafunrun-donate. If you have questions, contact [email protected].
