Berthoud Bash roared back in with an amazing night full of fun, fashion and fundraising. The event raised $150,000 for our Berthoud schools. A highlight of the night for many who attended was the array of beautiful and delicious desserts donated by individuals and local bakers from all over the Front Range. Every table of guests has an opportunity to donate money toward a tasty treat and the table with the highest donations gets to “dash” for their dessert first. Then the next highest bidding table does the dash, and so on. It was a record year for the Dessert Dash, raising over $11,000. The top dessert went for $1,110, which was created by the Berthoud High School Catering Class. This is an amazing accomplishment for our local students, because they were competing against many professional bakers. The young and upcoming pastry chef who created the winning cake was Allie McCrea. She made a decadent chocolate peanut butter masterpiece. When asked about such talented work, and the program that it comes out of, Amber Wharton, the Catering Class teacher at Berthoud High School said, “The catering program at BHS provides a unique work-based learning opportunity for students while in high school. They have a chance to explore new foods, create masterpieces, and experience what it is like to run a small-scale catering business and I am blown away by their passion and abilities every year.”

Other top five desserts picked this were: a Turtle cheesecake donated by 3 C’s Bakery, a Death by Chocolate Decadence Cake donated by Kristy Peatrowsky, a beautiful 2-tiered Baileys & Guinness Cake donated by Amy Schluessler and a strawberry chocolate mousse cake donated by Gail & Paul Schumacher.

Although these desserts were absolutely incredible, we didn’t have a single dessert that wasn’t “dash” worthy.  Additional bakeries that donated this year were: “B” Sweet Cupcakes, Colorado Coffee Company, For Heavens Cakes by Amy, Frida Cafe & Bakery, Garden Spot Sweets & Treats, Made from Scratch Bakery, P7 Creations, RISE Artisan Bread, Sweet European Treats, and The Cookie Sheet. Additional individuals that donated were: Laurelanne and Caleb Hardy, Chad & Tiffany Hymel, Kelly Seaton, Lexi Burton, Rich & Kristi Boddy and Natalie Allen. If you are in need of a tasty treat, please consider using one of our generous donors who supports our local schools. We couldn’t have had such an amazing event without them.
